Latest on the FA QBs

There has been quite a bit of chaos in free agency thus far. The biggest headlights have to come from many QBs around the league. We’ve witnessed many QBs change teams. With that said, a fascinating question arises: what are the grades of the FA QB signings? Well, I’m going to cover that area right now.

Sam Darnold to Seahawks

Grade: C

I don’t love that the Seahawks let Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf leave, then to only ink a slightly above average signal-caller in FA. Darnold can’t carry the Hawks offense in my opinion. He doesn’t have Justin Jefferson and TJ Hockenson anymore. The biggest positive from this signing is that Darnold isn’t as old as the likes of Geno Smith (34 years old) or Aaron Rodgers (41 years old).

Justin Fields to New York Jets

Grade: B

I love the situation for Justin Fields in New York. He can have somewhat similar success as Jalen Hurts in Philly in my opinion. He has play-makers that can make plays in space, such as Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard. Fields can slowly break down a defense and have fewer 3 and outs then what Rodgers had with the offense last season. He also has an Aaron Glenn-led defense that can help him, to say the least.

Mac Jones to San Francisco 49ers

Grade: A

I absolutely love the 49ers signing of Mac Jones. He has first-round potential and he will be playing with one of the best supporting casts in the league. Jones could certainly give Brock Purdy nerves about keeping the QB1 gig long-term. Plus, Purdy missed a few gams last season and another contest in the season prior.

Zach Wilson

Grade: C-

Zach Wilson has arm talent, but I don’t believe he will turn the corner anytime soon. Furthermore, the Phins need to have a QB that could realistically start a few games in a season – as Tua Tagovailoa missed six games last season. Wilson will make some beautiful throws, but I’d rather see a wise backup QB like Joe Flacco or even Jameis Winston arrive in Miami.

There is still a lot of pieces to fall into place regarding the free agency pool of QBs. Aaron Rodgers is stealing the spotlight – as it’s also hard to peg where he will sign. Russell Wilson is also a wild-card that could land with a desperate QB-needy team or a team that won’t easily give him the keys to the QB1 spot.
