Rattler trade spots
By: Jake Rajala
The New Orleans Saints fifth-round draft pick in 2024 Spencer Rattler has arm talent that’s off the charts, but that may not save him a spot in the Saints QB room. According to PFN, Rattler may be expendable (as the Saints carry Derek Carr, Tyler Shough and Jake Haener). With that said, I’m going to untwine some spots for him.
- New York Jets
I believe there’s a realistic chance that Rattler could gain the keys to the Jets offense at some point in the future. Justin Fields (14-30 in his career) has failed to remain consistent or firing off on all cylinders. CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso also believes that the Jets will pursue a QB in 2026. Perhaps Fields can come in for read option and QB power plays.
- Kansas City Chiefs
Rattler and Patrick Mahomes have similar size, arm strength, and mobility! Rattler has more up-side than the current Chiefs QB2 Gardner Minshew, to say the least. The Chiefs also need a strong QB2, as Mahomes has missed a game in each of his last couple of seasons.
- Miami Dolphins
Rattler would be in heaven with the combination of his arm strength and the deep speed of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Mike McDaniel also loves throwing quick passes to the play-makers and letting them shine in space. I believe the Zach Wilson experiment is finished and the Phins should get someone younger and more superb.
- New England Patriots
I’m not completely sold on Drake Maye, as he went 3-9 last season. I’d love to see more competition to push Maye to his best self. The Pats have Joshua Dobbs, but I don’t think Dobbs could start a full season for a team. However, I do believe that Rattler could stay QB1 for a full season, especially if his weapons stay healthy.
- Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott has missed 14 games in his past three seasons. Not only that, the Boys must be desperate for a big-arm QB to utilize Cedee Lamb. Cooper Rush has been an admirable QB, as he went 4-4 last season. However, he sadly went to the Baltimore Ravens this off-season.
It’s yet to be seen if the Saints ship out Rattler. I do believe that Tyler Shough is more NFL-ready than Rattler. There is also an NFL QB by the name of Derek Carr, who should be in contention to start in 2025 and 2026.
