AFC South duel

Two AFC East coaches, in two critical situations, are hoping that a successful 2025-2026 season is in their hands. Mike McDaniel of the Miami Dolphins and Mike Vrabel of the New England Patriots have different expectations set upon them. This brings the question: Who has the edge for the upcoming season?
In his fourth year as the head coach for the Miami Dolphins, Mike McDaniel had his worst season last year as he led the Miami Dolphins to an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs for the first time in his career. Even with Tua missing six games that year, the offense struggled and questions arose about McDaniel’s ability to lead the team. There is uncertainty in the air as if McDaniel has one more bad year, that he could be in the hot seat.
Mike Vrabel returns as a head coach after being part of the Cleveland Browns coaching staff last year. Known for his intensity, people praised the Vrabel hire for the New England Patriots. He is tasked to lead the new-look Patriots with Drake Maye as the new face of the team. As the former head coach of the Titans, Vrabel hopes to bring the success he brought to Tennessee to New England.
The Miami Dolphins have had a quiet offseason in fixing the holes in their team. A curious thing spotted was that all but one player signed a one year deal. With their cap becoming an issue, this is a tactic that seems more of a temporary fix. They still have big names on offense and defense that can lead the team. It will all be dependent on Tua’s health.
Drake Maye balled out to end the 2024-2025 NFL Season and gave Patriots fans hope for the future. They drafted offensive talent with their first four picks and then added defensive talent later on. Universal praise was given as the roster has been rejuvenated with young players. The big signing this free agency period was Steffon Diggs, who is recovering from an ACL tear early last season. His presence gives Maye a true WR 1 who knows the pressure of the AFC East. Even with all the optimism, this is still a very young and inexperienced team. It will be very interesting to see the progress of the team as a whole.
All in all, Mike McDaniel has the current edge over Mike Vrabel. But, don’t count Mike Vrabel’s leadership and he could possibly overtake Mike McDaniel.
