NFC East: Ranking Defenses

Who has the best defense in the NFC East?

By: Jake Rajala

There are many gifted defensive players in the NFC East. There is Micah Parsons, Jalen Carter, Brian Burns, and Marshon Lattimore. These pieces are a part of a bigger pie. With that said, I’m going to examine and rank these defenses.

4. Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys struggled to shine on early downs, which led to foes slowing mowing down the Boys defense and not getting fresh bodies. This was a key part of the Boys ranked 31st in points allowed. The Boys were a near average pass defense. They ranked 18th in passing YPG and 12th in interceptions. Their run defense was atrocious. They ranked 29th in rushing yards per game. There was a bright side to this madness. The Boys were third in sacks. This was even accomplished with Micah Parsons missing four games.

3. Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders have a few All-Pro caliber players, such as Bobby Wagner and Marshon Lattimore. Their secondary is led by Lattimore, who blankets half the field. Their defense ranked fifth in passing yards per game allowed. I’d like to see more pass rush production. They are 17th in sacks, which isn’t superb for a team that wants to win a Super Bowl right now. Their defense was also 31st in rushing yards per game allowed.

2. New York Giants

The GMEN are the second best defense on this list. They ranked Top-10 in sacks (ninth overall) and Top-10 in passing yards per game allowed (in ninth overall). Similar to the Boys, their run defense bit the dust. Plus, they added CB Paulson Adebo to their secondary in free agency. Of course, they drafted Abdul Carter (who happens to have a Star Wars dance celebration) Their overall defense was more impressive than the Boys. This showed in the GMEN ranking 20th in PPG allowed than 31st in PPG allowed. The Giants could have a Top-5 defense next season, just like someone else ahead of them on this list.

1. Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are balanced, aggressive, and great at takeaways. The Eagles ranked first in PPG allowed! The Eagles ranked first in takeaways. The Eagles ranked second in passing yards per game allowed. The Eagles even managed to be fourth in rushing yards per game allowed. Without a doubt, the Eagles had the best defense last season. The scary part is that figures like Jalen Carter, Zack Baun, Cooper DeJean, and Jordan Davis are just scratching the surface.
