Will T-Lawrence ever get traded?
By: Jake Rajala
Just as it was said in “John Wick”, everything has a price. This applies to any football player in my opinion. It can refer to the most vital position on the field: quarterback. One of the more talented QBs in the AFC is Trevor Lawrence. So, what would it take for Lawrence to be traded?
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away. Lawrence was selected first overall in the 2021 draft. His rookie season was far from sexy. He threw for a league-leading 17 ints. He had an 3-14 record. Urban Meyer was a cancer in that locker room.
Lawrence somewhat put his rookie season behind him. He went 9-8 as a sophomore! He had a passer rating of 95.2. Lawrence went 8-8 in his third season and then he fell flat on his face in his fourth season, as he went 2-8.
I honestly believe that Lawrence could be traded and that it may happen if Lawrence has pedestrian numbers this upcoming season. If the Jags wait 2-3 more seasons and Lawrence struggles, he won’t have any trade value.
The Jags could very well end up with a Top-10 pick in the 2026 or 2027 draft. They could use Lawrence to trade up to select a new QB!
They could also trade for a young QB right now to develop. Aidan O’Connell, Mac Jones, and Spencer Rattler could be quality project QBs.
Lawrence needs to shine with the newly acquired Travis Hunter, who won the Heisman last season. Hunter can help Lawrence’s stat sheet by making plays in space and taking it the distance.
Let’s not forget that Lawrence plays in arguably the worst division in football. There is no excuse for him to not drop 40 points in one of his division match-ups.
As previously noted, Lawrence can be traded. I’d like to see him play well for two straight seasons. So, why does he need to play well for two straight season? He has already used up his get-out-of-jail-free cards. He only won two games in a season and one game in a season!
If Lawrence doesn’t pan out, he’s far from the only 1st overall pick to be a bust. Former first round picks: David Carr, JaMarcus Russell, Carson Palmer, Matthew Stafford, Alex Smith, Sam Bradford, and Jameis Winston haven’t quite lived up to their potential.
