Saints RB free agent outlook
By: Jake Rajala
The New Orleans Saints recently gave running back Cam Akers a visit. This shows that they are clearly open to adding an RB, especially for their RB2 spot. With that said, I’m going to untwine free-agent targets at RB for the Saints.
Zeke Elliot
Zeke Elliot could bring back memories of Mark Ingram playing like thunder with Kamara playing like lightning. He didn’t shine in a pedestrian Cowboys offense, but he did have 876 yards and 12 rushing TDs in 2022. I’d love to see the Saints healthy elite OL help the 29 year old have a couple of more prolific seasons.
Chase Edmonds
Chase Edmonds is a versatile ball-carrier who should complete all of the same plays created for Alvin Kamara. Edmonds has two seasons where he recorded 850 total yards and 903 total yards. However, there is an honest flip, he didn’t play last season. He should be fresh after taking a season off.
Cam Akers
Cam Akers has the best chance of landing with the Saints. He will be trying out with them in mini-camp. Akers had a modest 2024 season, as he unleashed 444 yards and averaged 4.3 YPC. Akers is also 25 years old, which may come as a surprise. Akers could return to Sean McVay’s offense, given his creativity, too.
Honorable Mention:
Jamaal Williams
Jamaal is a fan favorite in the Big Easy. He also has experience with the Saints offense. Williams has been a red zone machine in his career. Williams (and Taysom Hill) could be the hammer in goal-line situations. The Saints also don’t have to pay too much for Williams. He would likely demand a prove it deal.
