Who will have the first overall pick?
By: Jake Rajala
It’s never sexy to be the worst NFL team in the league. However, the worst team gets the first overall pick. It’s also not rare to see a team bounce back from worst to first. With that said, I’m going to untwine five candidates to have the first overall pick in 2026.
Honorable Mention:
New York Giants
I believe that Jaxson Dart could be the hero for the GMEN fans. However, he may have to sit a year, behind Russell Wilson. The Giants also have to play the Eagles and Commanders, so it won’t be easy to be crowned NFC East Champions.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence has been the opposite of a savior for the Jags. T-Lawrence went 2-8 last season. He also made one Pro Bowl in four years, which isn’t daunting. If Lawrence doesn’t have near a .500 record, they should deal him away.
4. New Orleans Saints
I don’t believe that the door should be shut on Tyler Shough/Spencer Rattler. They have Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Brandin Cooks. Spencer Rattler went 0-9 last season and they still went 5-12. I expect the Saints to have growing pains at QB, but it’s unlikely they will be the worst team.
3. Tennesse Titans
The Titans have their franchise QB in Cam Ward. However, he is in a scary situation, where he has little talent. As far as first overall pick comparisons, Ward is closer to Joe Burrow than the likes of Alex Smith. The Titans could trade a high pick in 2026 for many later picks, assuming Ward proves to be the guy for another season.
2. New York Jets
Justin Fields has a career record of 14-40. He also was benched last season. I believe that Fields isn’t surrounded enough with a lot of firepower. Tae is out of the Big Apple. After Garrett Wilson, it’s quite murky. Josh Reynolds is their WR2, who isn’t lethal. All he did was haul in 194 yards and one touchdown.
1. Cleveland Browns
Not only were the Browns the worst team in the NFL last season, but they may have a below average QB in Joe Flacco moving forward to make it more depressing. They also don’t have Nick Chubb or Amari Cooper! All the Browns fans do is wish that Shedeur Sanders can make a lot plays, even if he doesn’t have a lot of help.
