WR outlook for the Jets
By: Jake Rajala
The New York Jets don’t exactly have daunting wide receivers, especially after shipping away Davante Adams (after saying bye to Aaron Rodgers). The Jets still have a young, explosive WR in Garrett Wilson. After Wilson, the ship sinks. They carry Josh Reynolds. Let it be known: he is not scary. Wilson recorded 194 yards and one touchdown last season. With this all enunciated, I’m going to untwine five WRs the Jets could trade for to improve their spot.
Terry McLaurin
The Jets could send a first round pick for the Commanders for Terry McLaurin, otherwise known as “Scary Terry”. Justin Fields needs him more than Jayden Daniels. Plus, the Commanders reeled in Deebo Samuel not too long ago. Scary Terry unleashed 13 receiving touchdowns last season. He is 29, so the Commanders may feel father time is catching up to Terry, so it adds extra sense to trade him away.
Rasheed Shaheed
PFF dubbed Rasheed Shaheed as a breakout candidate in 2024. However, he got injured and only played in six games. He had a modest 58.2 YPG last season. He was a first-team All-Pro return specialist in 2023. The Saints WR Chris Olave was pegged as a hot trade candidate. Perhaps the Saints keep Olave and send the other young wideout out of the Big Easy.
DJ Moore
DJ Moore isn’t properly being used in an offense that should be putting up fireworks often. He had a career-high 98 catches. The issue is that he registered a career-low 9.8 YPC. The Bears still have a young, modest WR in Rome Odunze and 2025 second round pick, Luther Burden, if they wish to send Moore away.
Tee Higgins
I’d love to see the Jets get the best WR2 in the game, otherwise known as Tee Higgins. The Bengals gave Higgins a monster contract this off-season, alongside Ja’Marr Chase. Higgins unveiled 10 touchdowns last season. Not bad for a 26 year old! Furthermore, Fields has had issues in the redzone, so he nicely fits in their offense.
Brandon Aiyuk
There has still been news that the 49ers could deal Brandon Aiyuk, despite already trading away Samuel. Aiyuk is coming off a torn ACL. If the 49ers trade Aiyuk away, they still have George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, Jauan Jennings, and Ricky Pearsall. Obviously, he’s a bit of a risk, given his prior injury.
