Best and worst case for the Houston Texans

Outlook for the Houston Texans

By: Jake Rajala

The Houston Texans fought to make it into the post-season in CJ Stroud’s second season. Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson has been a gigantic bust in Cleveland. The Texans don’t only have Stroud, but they arguably have the best pass-rushing tandem in the league with Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. With that said, I’m going to unveil the outlook for the reigning AFC South Champions.

Worst

The only thing holding them back on offense is their WR core. Nico Collins isn’t a Top-20 WR and Christian Kirk was a bust in Jacksonville. CJ Stroud isn’t good enough to carry a pedestrian offense. I’d love to see Amari Cooper or even OBJ sign a short-term deal with them. When the Texans get into a shoot-out with teams, that spells trouble for them. The Chiefs dropped 27 points on them and won, then the Baltimore Ravens dropped 41 points and won.

Best

Say it with me: the Texans have the best RB tandem in the league! They recently brought on Nick Chubb to join Joe Mixon. Chubb is 29 years old and not coming off a stellar season, but he’s the perfect back-up RB. He can mow down tired defenses in the fourth quarter. We can trust Hunter to be a Pro Bowler on the edge, but I believe that Will Anderson will take a significant jump – after notching 11 sacks last season.

The Texans have the talent to be a Top-3 AFC Team. After all, they merely lost to the Lions by three points and to the Chiefs by eight points. They are competitive and young at the same time. That’s a rare combo. I’m a little concerned that the Texans don’t bury some of their weak opponents. They only won by three against the Jaguars, four against the Jags, and three against the Colts. Ultimately, I’d love to see Stroud get an elite toy. He’s getting the Aaron Rodgers treatment, where he gets little help at WR.
