Justin Simmons potential destinations

Where could Simmons play?

By: Jake Rajala

Justin Simmons has been one of the best safeties over the past several years. He was second-team All-Pro in 2023. Right now, he is a lonesome free agent. According to Pro Football Rumors, he plans to sign with a contender. With that said, I’m going to unfold potential destinations for Simmons.

Pittsburgh Steelers

It makes too much sense for Simmons to play with the Steelers. They added Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf on offense. They exchanged Minkah Fitzpatrick for Jalen Ramsey on defense. If they can land Simmons or free agent Marcus Williams to replace Minkah, I would say the Steelers won the trade.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have a very intimidating defense. They brought back Khalil Mack and they added Donte Jackson. They still are missing talent at free safety alongside Derwin James. Alohi Gillman isn’t quite ready to face Patrick Mahomes twice a season. He had a lousy PFF grade of 55.3 last season.

Dallas Cowboys

The combination of Dak staying healthy, Micah Parsons not getting injured, and George Pickens added to the roster could really catapult them to have 11-12 wins. Their secondary is impressive with Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, and Malik Hooker can make plays. Justin Simmons could really be the cherry on top. They should have a stacked secondary, as they face Jayden Daniels and Jalen Hurts twice each season.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have a Super Bowl-caliber offense, but their defense was obliterated in the last playoff match against the Washington Commanders, as DET lost 45-31. Aidan Hutchinson will be one of the missing links. Simmons could be a stud alongside Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch, too. The Lions had the best record in the NFC last season. That should appeal to Simmons!

Philadelphia Eagles

Philly is asking a lot from free safety Andrew Mukuba, who was their 2025 second round pick, to start right away. He will fill the shoes left from the elite safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, who had six interceptions last season. Philly also lost Darius Slay from their secondary, so they could blatantly use more talent on their back-end.

Simmons is 31 years old, which is old for safeties (except for Harrison Smith, who is 36). Simmons is clearly looking for a Super Bowl contender right now. Not only did I list a few teams that could win it all, but a couple of them really need a free safety. Hence, I hope Simmons can find the right home soon, as training camp is around the corner.
