Prescott vs Romo
By: Jake Rajala
The former undrafted quarterback Tony Romo passed the torch to Dak Prescott a long time ago. Romo is a brilliant commentator, while Dak aims to get a Super Bowl ring, which has been a challenge for the Boys. With that said, I’m going to unfold which QB is better.
2023 stats (Dak):
4,516 passing yards, 69.5 completion percentage, 36 passing touchdowns to 9 ints
2014 stats (Romo)
3,705 passing yards, 69.9 completion percentage, 34 passing touchdowns to 9 ints
It’s quite clear that each QB has had similar highs. 2023 was the second best season from Dak and it was the second best season from Romo.
Romo has thrown 248 passing touchdowns to 117 interceptions. Meanwhile, Dak has 213 passing TDs to 82 ints. Romo has played in 156 games. Dak has played in 122 games. Dak is on pace to pass Romo’s total touchdown passes. I believe that Dak will be better than Romo. He has George Pickens to join Cedee Lamb. Romo had Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, which was even more impressive.
Dak has had six winning seasons out of nine seasons. Romo has had seven winning seasons out of 10 seasons.
Each QB has been prolific, but they have also led the league in interceptions. In 2012, Romo threw 19 ints, which was the worst in the league. In 2022, Dak threw a league leading 15 ints.
In the end, I have to choose Dak. His recent Pro Bowl campaign in 2023 was more impressive than Romo given that Romo had better toys. Plus, Dak is beginning to peak at the right time. Dak needs to step it up in the playoffs, however. He is 2-5 in the post-season, while Romo is 2-4 in the playoffs.
