Why the Seahawks can surprise
By: Jake Rajala
The Seattle Seahawks are blatantly slept on heading into the 2025 season. They sit in one of the best divisions (NFC West) and they don’t have a Top-5 QB, so they are thrown to the curb. Well, I’m going to unfold a few seasons why they can turn heads.
- Klint Kubiak
As a die-hard Saints fan, it was hard to see Klint Kubiak leave. He knows the strengths and flaws of each player on his offense. We witnessed how accurate and consistent Kubiak made Sam Darnold in the second preseason game. Darnold went 4/4 and recorded 34 passing yards. Expect Cooper Kupp to really shine – as he should get the ball in space a lot.
- Charles Cross
The Seahawks left tackle Charles Cross is 24 and he’s a stud. All he did last season was notch a PFF grade of 82.5! He had the 10th best PFF ranking. He’s vital against the likes of edge rushers Nick Bosa, DROY Jared Verse, and Josh Sweat.
- Defensive Line
Leonard Williams is one of the most versatile DL in football. He unleashed 11 sacks and 28 QB hits last season! Jarran Reed is also a stud. The Hawks brought them more help with DeMarcus Lawrence. The Hawks arguably have a Top-5 DL. They can get after the QB with four down DL, so they don’t have to blitz that often.
I believe Darnold can have similar success in Seattle that he had in Minnesota. He can be a consistent short passer and hit the deep ball off play-action. I’d like to see him have fewer than 12 interceptions (which was his 2024 figure) in 2025.
As shown above, the Hawks are quite well-rounded. Not only do they have Darnold, Kubiak, Kupp, but they have a stout OL and DL! I’m quite excited to see it all come together and surprise in the rugged NFC West.
