Is McVay really a future Hall of Famer?

By: Jake Rajala

Sean McVay is well regarded as one of the most creative head coaches in the NFL. His schemes have been copied by many teams. He’s also a successful head coach. He’s won a Super Bowl already. With that said, a fascinating question clouds over him. Is he a future Hall of Famer?

Here is a closer look at his accomplishments:

  • 81-52 coaching record (.609 winning percentage)
  • NFC Champion
  • Super Bowl Champion
  • Top 3 in offensive points twice

As you can see, McVay has been quite consistent and a true winner. There is something that has been a road block for McVay: Kyle Shanahan. He is 10-6 against Sean. That’s not a good sign if McVay wants to win the NFC West.

I understand that McVay is 39 years old and he’s only been a coach for nine seasons. Nonetheless, he’s only had one losing season!

So, is McVay a lock to be in the Hall of Fame?

I believe he would be a future Hall of Famer right now, but he wouldn’t be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He needs to get 4-5 more winning seasons or another Lombardi if he wants to be a first ballot in my opinion.

There have been rumors that McVay will retire soon. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he follows Matthew Stafford out the door. Many were surprised that he stayed after Aaron Donald fled.

I believe that McVay has a legit shot at winning another Super Bowl soon. Not only is Matthew Stafford healthy, but they arguably have the best WR tandem in the league with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. They have a lot of fresh, talented players on defense.

The Rams have the best chance of winning their division this season. Not only did Seattle and Arizona look average at best in Week 1, but 49ers QB Brock Purdy is out for 2-5 weeks. Plus, George Kittle is MIA with a hamstring injury.
