Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning
By: Jake Rajala
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are two of the best quarterbacks to play the game. TB12 was a sixth-round pick in 2000, while Peyton was a first overall pick in 1998. Peyton didn’t imagine a sixth round pick would make his life miserable.
Each QB has had unique success. Brady has won seven Super Bowl rings. He also has the most passing yards (89,214) and passing touchdowns (649) in a career. Of course, Brady is also in the film, “Ted”. Meanwhile, Peyton has won two Super Bowls. Furthermore, he’s third in passing yards and third in passing TDs of all time.
Brady has not only won many Super Bowls, but he’s won a Super Bowl with a couple of different teams. Patriots and the Buccaneers would be those two teams. Peyton has also won a SB with two different teams. The Colts and Broncos are those teams.
Brady is 7-3 in Super Bowls, while Peyton Manning is 2-2 in Super Bowls.
So, a fascinating question arises: what is Peyton and Tom’s record head to head?
Brady is 9-3 against Peyton in the playoffs. Ouch. It’s somewhat worth mentioning that Peyton is 3-2 against Brady in the regular season.
Brady (and Drew Brees) simply played longer than Peyton and had better physical ability late in their careers, which allowed them to have better stats and more wins. However, if you considered a picture where Brady and Peyton both played the same amount of seasons, Brady would still have a few more Super Bowl rings.
If you combine Peyton, Brees, and Favre’s number of Super Bowl rings, it still wouldn’t add up to the number of rings that Brady has. However, Super Bowl wins aren’t everything.
If Peyton had Bill Belichick, he may have won five Super Bowls. You can’t completely glorify Brady for having seven Super Bowl wins.
I still prefer Brady over Manning. The only current QB that could catch Peyton in my book is Patrick Mahomes.
