defenses to target
By: Jake Rajala
The dynasty season is heating up early in the season. It’s vital to target the right defense to get an edge. With that said, I’m going to lay out four defenses to target in dynasty.
Houston Texans
The Texans have one of the best pass rushing tandems in the league with Danielle Hunter (who has 2 sacks in Week 2) and Will Anderson (2 sacks so far). Vance Joseph is a genius defensive mind. They ranked 8th last season. Their defense unleashed seven points in Week 1 and eight points in Week 2. I love the Texans schedule, as they face the Jags and Titans offense twice each.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints have had a couple of modest showcases. They have averaged 7 points through two games. I love their match-up against an average offense in Seattle this weekend. The Hawks OC is Klint Kubiak and he was Saints OC last season. Hence, the Saints know his tactics. Carl Granderson is tied for the sack lead and they still don’t even have Chase Young in the lineup quite yet.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers defense has 18 points over their past two games combined. Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams could turn out to be a Top-3 pass rushing tandem. Fred Warner is a Top-3 ILB. Robert Saleh is also highly respectable and he knows which buttons to press.
Denver Broncos
The Broncos scored 16 points in Week 1. Don’t lose faith in them after laying a goose egg in Week 2. After all, they were the best defense last season. They also play against the Bengals, Jets, Giants, in the near future.
It’s sadly true that many people turn a blind eye to defenses in fantasy football. Having the right defense can be as valuable as the right flex player. It’s also important to have the proper, quality defense when the starting defense has a bye week.
