What happened to Terrelle Pryor?

Terrelle Pryor’s reflection

By: Jake Rajala

The lengthy Terrelle Pryor once made splash plays on the field as a dual-threat quarterback for the then “Oakland Raiders”. Sadly, he never got more playing time as a QB, after 2013. In 2013, he threw 7 TDs to 11 ints. He also ran for 576 rushing yards. He didn’t quite earn a career at the QB spot. In 2015, he switched to the WR spot.

So, how did he perform at WR? The answer is: Impressive. Not only did he unleash 1,007 yards, but he did so in his second season at WR for the Cleveland Browns. It wasn’t Pro Bowl numbers, but he proved to be a reliable WR2 on a team at the very least.

He didn’t play with the Browns after his best pro season. Unfortunately, he left and went to Washington. He only unleashed 240 yards in nine contests with the team. In 2018, he played with the Jets and the Bills.

I would have really enjoyed to see him have a Taysom Hill like role. Hill recently mowed down the Panthers in the 4 minute drill from the QB spot. Pryor has the speed and size to play QB in wildcat formation and slot WR.

If Pryor stayed in CLE after his 1k season, he may have had a rich career. He had serious chemistry there. It was clearly better than Raiders, to say the least. He was fun to watch at QB, but he wasn’t consistent enough in the passing game. I would have also liked to see him in an offense and team that had a legit shot at winning the Super Bowl. Kyle Shanahan may have made a lot of magic happen with Pryor. He was successful with RG3 at QB, Kyle Juszczyk at fullback, and George Kittle at TE.

Clearly, it’s too late for Pryor to make an NFL comeback at 36 years old. I would like to see athletes who come along with versatility like him to find the right home.
