Will Zeke get a gold jacket?
By: Jake Rajala
Zeke Elliot was one of the best Dallas Cowboys running backs of all time. It didn’t take long for him to make a name for himself. He won Offensive Rookie of the Year by way of 1,631 rushing yards (which led the league) and 15 rushing TDs. He was also first team All-Pro in his rookie season!
Zeke only played in 10 games in his second season. Nonetheless, he still had 983 rushing yards. He was back on track to his normal self in his third pro season, as he unleashed 1,434 rushing yards, which was also the most rushing YDs in the league.
With that all enunciated, a fascinating question surrounds Elliott: Is he a future Hall of Famer?
He doesn’t stack up well to other future Hall of Fame RBs. We know Adrian Peterson won MVP and stacked up many All-Pro honors.
Well, the Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry and Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley also have had 2k rushing yard seasons and have won OPOY. Hence, they’ve done things that Zeke couldn’t do. Let it be known that Zeke has also played with an elite OL, too. If Zeke played a little bit better and cracked 2k yards on a couple of instances, he would have a pretty darn good chance of being cast into Canton.
If Zeke had won a Super Bowl, he could counter some of his lack of production. However, that’s not the case.
I’d be shocked if Zeke didn’t have a name in the Cowboys Ring of Honor. Zeke deserves to be up there with the likes of Emmitt Smith.
Zeke played a season in New England and then returned to Dallas for his last season. Over those two seasons, it was safe to say that he was washed up.
