Is Shottenheimer really on the hot seat?

By: Jake Rajala

Brian Schottenheimer was promoted from the offensive coordinator to head coach in 2025. He had a plethora of success as OC with the Boys. His offense ranked first in points and fifth in yards in 2023. Dak Prescott was an MVP candidate under him. In 2025, his offense ranks third in points and first in YPG!

The most important factor surrounding any HC is wins. Is Schottenheimer winning enough? Well, the Boys are sitting at 6-6-1. Most likely, the Boys will not make the playoffs this season. They should still hang their heads high. Not only is it his first year as the HC, but they have beaten teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

With that said, the pivotal question is: Should Shottenheimer really be on the hot seat?

I don’t believe so.

The Boys have improved from last season, where they went 7-10. The Mike McCarthy disease is out the window. Brian has this team more motivated and amped up.

The biggest task for Brian this offseason has to be locking up George Pickens long-term, as he will be a free agent. Pickens, Ceedee Lamb, Prescott, and Brian should all be on the squad in 2026.

The real question is: Should Matt Eberflus (the Boys defensive coordinator) be on the team in 2026?

The Boys rank 31st in PPG allowed, 29th in YPG allowed, and they only have 10 takeaways on the season. Without Micah Parsons, they rank 14th in sacks.

I can’t imagine that the Boys keep Matt in 2026. They simply have too much talent on defense to be suffering like this. They should be a hot spot for a DC, as their offense is doing its part at a very high level.

The only way I see Brian getting axed is if they lose out or win just one more game. They need to hit .500 for the remainder of their schedule, at the very least.
