San Francisco 49ers to-do list this offseason

The 49ers to-do list this offseason

By: Jake Rajala

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most underrated teams in the league. They are in the shadow of the reigning Super Bowl Champions (Seattle Seahawks) and the loaded Los Angeles Rams squad. With that, it’s extra pivotal that they have a sharp offseason. With that said, I’m going to lay out a “to-do” list for the 49ers.

5. Sign one of the best free agent WRs

There is no secret: The 49ers need more WR talent in 2026. Brandon Aiyuk will most likely be traded, and Jauan Jennings is a free agent. They need an alpha at WR. Even if they bring back Jennings, they still need a quality WR1. I’d love to see the 49ers target the cream of the crop WRs, such as Tyreek Hill or the familiar Deebo Samuel.

4. Keep Mac Jones

Mac Jones is arguably the best backup QB in the league. This makes it vital that they keep him. Purdy is somewhat injury prone. He missed a couple of games in 2024, and then obviously he missed eight games last season. I would only trade Jones for a second round pick (at minimum).

3. Sign an elite pass rusher

The 49ers were dead last in sacks last season. The season ending injury to Nick Bosa is no excuse for a complete lack of a pass rush. I’d love to see the 49ers bring in Trey Hendrickson. After all, 49ers Webzone pegs Hendrickson as a logical fit for them. I don’t trust the 49ers landing a stud pass rusher with their 27th overall pick.

2. Keep Trent Williams

According to the New York Times, John Lynch said, “I think we’re on the right track”, in reference to Trent Williams’s contract negotiations. Williams may be 37, but he is still one of the best LTs in the league. I really believe he can play another 2-3 seasons. He had a PFF grade of 91.5, which was third among tackles!

1. Extend John Lynch

The legendary NFL safety, John Lynch, is one of the best general managers in the business. He knows how to find talent better than anyone else, especially in the drafts. Well, his contract is up after this season. I’d love to see the 49ers extend him, rather than wait for his contract to expire.
