Where will Aaron Jones play next?
By: Jake Rajala
It’s been widely reported that current Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones will be cut or traded. So, I’m going to lay out some teams that could trade for him or sign him.
Jacksonville Jaguars
I fully expect the versatile Travis Etienne to hit free agency. He has been linked to the Kansas City Chiefs. Hence, Aaron Jones can be his replacement. They have a similar skillset. Etienne had 292 receiving yards. Of course, Jones is four years older than Etienne. The current Jags RB2, Bayshul Tuten, isn’t a worthy RB1 right now.
Green Bay Packers
“Tell the world I’m coming home”
The Packers have a beast at RB in Josh Jacobs. However, Jacobs isn’t meant to be a pass catcher at the RB spot. Jones can handle the screens and short routes from the RB position. Jones also has chemistry with Matt LaFleur. Of course, everybody in Green Bay loves Jones, too.
Las Vegas Raiders
Jones and Ashton Jeanty could be like “thunder and lightning”. Sure, Jeanty is a physical freak. However, that hasn’t translated to him playing like a Pro Bowler. The Raiders were 32nd in rushing YPG last season. Jones could be a security blanket in the passing game for Fernando Mendoza. Klint Kubiak is also an offensive genius. We saw Kenneth Walker (who is a RB with the Seahawks) win MVP in the Super Bowl under Kubiak.
New Orleans Saints
Alvin Kamara took a step back last season, as he’s 30 years old. PFF dubbed him as the worst RB in the league. After Kamara, the Saints are hurting at RB. Kendre Miller has failed to sprout, and Audric Estimy isn’t a quality RB2. Jones could give Kamara a break, so he is fresh.
Houston Texans
I expect the Houston Texans to let Nick Chubb leave in free agency. As for Joe Mixon, his future is murky. He had a freak medical condition last season. He’s also being paid A LOT of money this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Texans and Mixon go their own way.
Aaron Jones doesn’t have many years left, but he should be a versatile weapon for the upcoming season. He is elusive, hard to bring down, and he has a high football IQ. I would also expect him to be intrigued at joining a playoff contender, as well.
