Training camp battles for the Saints
By: Jake Rajala
The New Orleans Saints have a lot of question marks on their roster. It’s unsure which profiles will sit and which will start. Well, I’m going to lay out a few training camp battles for the Saints.
Alvin Kamara vs Travis Etienne
Travis Etienne was the highest paid free agent running back this offseason. Well, Alvin Kamara also signed a contract that will make him a Saint for life. Etienne noted that Kamara once had six rushing touchdowns in one game. It’s like Jake Paul praising Mike Tyson. Kamara only played in 11 games last season, so he will have to prepare his body to last 17 games this upcoming season. We will have to see which RB will be the RB1.
Bryce Lance vs Devaughn Vele
Bryce Lance has really dazzled in this summer thus far. It shouldn’t be a surprise given that NFL.com handed him their highest scoring among WRs. Of course, Bryce is obviously the brother to Trey. He will competing for the WR3 spot against DeVaughn Vele, who was a stud, prior to getting hurt. He really looked like Marques Colston in many moments.
Kaden Elliss vs Danny Stutsman
With the future Hall of Famer Demario Davis gone, there is a void at the MLB spot. They brought back Kaden Elliss and they still have second year MLB Danny Stutsman. Ellis is quite versatile, as he can blitz well, and nicely drop into coverage. Stutsman may be able to light up opposing skill players, but does that translate to consistent success?
Honorable Mention:
Spencer Rattler vs Zach Wilson
There is no debate that Tyler Shough is the QB1 moving forward. However, it’s not clear who will be the QB2. There is the highly motivated Zach Wilson and then there’s the gifted arm Spencer Rattler. The winner of the battle will stay and the loser will likely get traded or cut.
The Saints are young and they should really improve as the season goes along. I’d love to see how these key battles play out moving forward, as well.
