Bold predictions for NFC North in Week 1
By: Jake Rajala
The NFC North has four teams that could make the playoffs. Each team is unique, nonetheless. With that said, I’m going to discuss a bold prediction for each team in Week 1.
Detroit Lions vs New Orleans Saints
The Lions allow several sacks
This may not be a fun prediction for Lions fans, but I see it occurring. The Saints have one of the top trio of pass rushers, with Cameron Jordan, Chase Young, and Carl Granderson. Young had 10 sacks in 12 games last season and Jordan had 10.5 sacks last season. I expect the Detroit Lions to be pass heavy, which will backfire.
I still believe that Aidan Hutchinson could get a couple of sacks.
Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers
Kyler Murray has 3 touchdowns
Kyler Murray is tired of his losing in Arizona (and his height). He is highly motivated and equipped with a Top-5 WR in Justin Jefferson. I expect him to take it out on a Packers defense that doesn’t have a lot out talent outside of Micah Parsons.
Matthew Golden has a 90+ yard receiving touchdown
Clearly, there is an NFC North showdown between the Vikings and the Packers. As for the Packers, I believe they will find a weak spot in the Vikings pass defense. They no longer have Harrison Smith, so the Vikings need to quickly cover up their safety spot with a quality safety.
Chicago Bears at the Carolina Panthers
The Bears force five turnovers
Dennis Allen’s crew (defense) led the league in turnovers last season. They will play with a lot of energy in Week 1. They know that Tetarioa McMillan is the Panthers go-to-guy. If they can slow him down, it will be hard for the young Bryce Young to shine.
If these teams fullfill my bold predictions, they should be off to a hot start. I am thrilled to see which NFC North team starts out on top. Week 1 is right around the corner.
