Best fits in 2027 for Baker Mayfield

Best fits in 2027 for Baker

By: Jake Rajala

Baker Mayfield’s contract situation hasn’t trended up this offseason, to say the least. Right now, I can’t imagine he gets a mega contract from the Buccaneers. So, I’m going to lay out potential fits for him in 2027.

Pittsburgh Steelers

All signs point toward Aaron Rodgers retiring after this upcoming season. There will be an empty chair in an offense that has DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr, and Darnell Washington. Let’s not forget they have a defense led by TJ Watt and Jalen Ramsey. They are in a win now mode.

Arizona Cardinals

Jacoby Brissett may be my fantasy QB, but that doesn’t mean he’s a star. He won one game last season, which is far from a recipe for success. There is no reason that a QB can’t win with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride in their offense. Carson Beck doesn’t look like he has the traits to be a quality starting QB yet.

New York Jets

I don’t believe a reunion with Geno Smith in the Big Apple is wise. He unleashed 17 interception last season and 15 in the season before. Most recently, he went 1-4 with an interception in the latest practice. Smith is also 35 years old, which is four years older than Mayfield.

Atlanta Falcons

I really don’t foresee Tua or Michael Penix dazzling in Atlanta. They have struggled over the past season on the field and off the field. Baker’s arm strength could be unlocked with Drake London down the field and in short windows in the end zone with Kyle Pitts. The biggest reason this wouldn’t work is that the Falcons and Bucs play in the same division.

Minnesota Vikings

I like Baker more than Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy. He has more arm power than the two QBs. Murray has also struggled to stay healthy. J.J. has struggled to be consistent. Baker can compete with a 2027 rookie in my opinion.

Honorable Mention

CJ Stroud

If CJ Stroud plays near his latest playoff showdown, his key to get in the building will most likely not work. Stroud has failed to improve from his rookie season. He threw 23 touchdowns as a rookie, then 20 touchdowns as a sophomore, and 19 in the season before that. At least, he’s 24 years old.
