Rams vs 49ers: 5 things we learned

Rams vs 49ers: 5 reflections

By: Jake Rajala

The San Francisco 49ers had their way with the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. The 49ers won by a score of 27-7. With that simply said, I’m going to unveil five things we learned from the NFC West tilt.

Myles Garrett vs Trent Williams

Everyone was watching the new LA Ram and reigning DPOY Myles Garrett battle on the edge. Garrett was silenced by Williams. He didn’t have a sack or hit. Don’t tell Williams that he is 38 years old. He’s like fine wine, as he continues to shine with old age. Hopefully, Garrett can take what he learned and have a superb day in their second meet.

Screen game

It would be an understatement to say the 49ers used a lot of screens. They used screens to Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and even George Kittle. This helped them slow down the Rams pass rush and force a lot of Rams defenders to use their motor and back-track.

Mike Evans

Mike Evans had a stellar day in his first game as a 49er. The 6’5 beast had six catches (tied for most on the team) and he had a TD, where he mossed the defensive back. I was worried that he may be washed up. Thus far, he looks in-shape and trustworthy.

Davante Adams

Tae was essentially absent in this game. He only had 3 grabs for 26 yards. If Matthew Stafford didn’t have the worst day of his career, he could have hit Tae for a couple of huge gains. If the Rams want to be firing on all cylinders, they need to get him involved. After all, he led the league in touchdowns last season.

Quentin Lake

Quentin Lake had himself a day. He led the Rams in tackles (with 10) and he also had an interception. Sadly, his efforts didn’t result in his team getting the win. Lake proved to be a bright spot on the Rams defense. He had the second best PFF grade (78.8) for the Rams defense. Only Trent McDuffie had a higher PFF grade.
