What does Jacoby Brissett bring to the Ravens?

Reflecting on what Brissett brings to the Ravens

By: Jake Rajala

It’s official: the Baltimore Ravens brought in Jacoby Brissett to replace Lamar Jackson, who was recently put on IR. Jackson broke his thumb. It was also on his right hand. Furthermore, Tyler Huntley suffered a turf toe injury. The Ravens clearly didn’t feel intrigued in their QB room, after the injuries to the top two QBs.

The current Ravens QBs are Joe Fagnano, who is a rookie this season. The other QB is Kedon Slovis, who is in his second year. Neither QB has separated themself from the competition. Hence, in comes in Brissett.

So, what does he bring to the table? He has a record of 3-5 on the season. He has thrown 10 touchdowns to 7 interceptions this season. PFF has given him a grade of 75.5, which is 12th among QBs. Yes, you read that correctly. He was efficient last season, despite one win to his name.

With that said, I’d like to see the Ravens bring in another veteran and cut one of the young signal-callers. I’d rather see two veteran QBs with one young QB than two young QBs and one veteran.

Brissett is at an intriguing part of his career. He can be productive and improve the players around him. After all, he has familiarity with Josh Daniels, who was the former OC for Tom Brady. However, Brissett is also 33 years old. He may have a few more seasons at most.

I can’t imagine that Jacoby will steal the job away from Jackson, even if Jacoby plays like a Pro Bowler. He is essentially auditioning for a new team. I just hope that Jacoby can bring the Ravens to a .500 team for the majority of the season and then move away from the pack of average squads and reach the playoffs.
