Will Donald unretire?
By: Jake Rajala
Aaron Donald is not only one of the best defensive lineman of all time, but one of the best defensive players of all time. Donald somewhat surprised the NFL world by retiring last offseason. He is a couple of years younger than guys like Von Miller and Cameron Jordan. With that said, a fascinating question clouds over Donald: could he unretire?
Well, it’s actually too late for Donald to return to the Rams for a playoff push right now. It’s too late for Donald (or Gronk) to return to the league after the last business day of Week 13. The Rams could release him and then sign him, but he would certainly be picked up in waivers by another team before LA.
Donald sadly can’t return for a Super Bowl push with Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, but he can return at the mid-point next year. Donald is a sure-fire Hall of Famer, but he could seek another Super Bowl ring to try and cement himself as the best defensive player of all time.
Donald was a nine-time All-Pro player and he also won Defensive Player of The Year three times! He only failed to get All-Pro in 2022 – where he played in only 11 games. In a single season, he once notched 20.5 sacks. His sack total was 20.5 – despite him getting double team and triple teamed often.
Donald takes care of his body and works out in freakish ways – similar to Ndamukong Suh. Hence, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if Donald feels like he could come off the couch and instantly shine.
