What is the best fit for Travis Hunter?
By: Jake Rajala
Travis Hunter deservedly won the Heisman trophy. His next step will likely be with a team in the Top 10 of the NFL Draft. Well, I’m going to untwine the best fits for Travis Hunter.
New England Patriots
It’s not a coincidence that the Pats are selected to pick Travis Hunter in the CBS Sports mock draft. The Pats have a young QB with a plethora of potential in Drake Maye. The issue is that he doesn’t have any toys. His top weapon last season was DeMario Douglas, who is a mediocre sixth round draft pick from 2023. The Pats have one of the worst WR groups in the league.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders shipped away Tae and are desperate for a star wideout. They also have a QB problem, similar to The GMEN. Nonetheless, they may want to take the best overall player (Hunter) and then acquire a new starting QB via a trade or free agency.
New York Giants
The Giants have a QB issue, but they would be handing the keys to a rookie QB in a dreadful situation. I’d prefer to see them acquire a QB via trade – such as Derek Carr or Kirk Cousins – or sign a FA QB like Sam Darnold. Then I’d love to see them draft Travis Hunter to play WR alongside Malik Nabers.
New Orleans Saints
Let’s not forget that Travis Hunter can play CB. The Saints may be tempted to trade up to select Hunter, who can be the true replacement for Marshon Lattimore. The other Saints starting CB is Paulson Adebo, who is slated to be a FA.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers found late-season magic from Bryce Young. Hence, they don’t need to draft a QB in 2025. I would like to see them add another weapon for Young, especially with Adam Thielen on the cusp of retirement. The Panthers could be NFC South favorites with Hunter.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have an elite QB, but they could use more firepower. Hunter could join Cedee Lamb and the Boys could have a cream of the crop WR duo. Hunter could also play CB alongside Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland.
San Francisco 49ers
Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk have had issues staying healthy. They both have also taken a step back, to be fair. There are also never enough RBs or WRs for Kyle Shanahan to play with. Another spark in the 49ers offense could help Shanny keep pace with the LA Rams.
