Which QBs are on the hot seat?
By: Jake Rajala
The NFL season has officially entered 2025. Each player has wished to have a career year in 2025. In particular, many mighty signal-callers recognize they need to improve next season. With that said, I’m going to untwine several QBs on the hot seat in 2025.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott was not the king of stats in 2024. He threw 11 touchdowns to 8 interceptions (in eight games). Furthermore, it’s yet another season where Dak hasn’t had a deep playoff run. We’ve already witnessed Jerry Jones move on from Mike McCarthy – despite McCarthy being a Super Bowl-winning coach. If Prescott can’t return to his 2023 form and win a playoff game next season, Jerry may pull the plug on Prescott.
Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson needs to stop yawning and play better football. Richardson can mow down foes with his legs, but he can’t hit the broad sign of a barn. He had a 47.7 completion percentage last season! He came out of 2024-2025 with a PFF grade of 62.2. Richardson reminds me of Tim Tebow – as they both can make plays with their legs – but they can’t be consistent in the passing game.
Trevor Lawrence
T-Lawrence hasn’t exactly proven his worth as a first overall pick. In a season where he was supposed to take the next step, he fell off a cliff. He had a record of 2-8! Furthermore, he only unveiled 11 touchdowns. His OL didn’t play that bad (18 sacks allowed), so there can’t be an excuse for him regarding his pass protection. Lawrence had a PFF grade of 76.8 this season.
Derek Carr
The Saints are stuck with Derek Carr after giving him a hefty contract. Carr actually played well last season. He was Top-10 in many categories. The problem was that Carr couldn’t stay healthy. He only played in 10 games, like T-Lawrence. He had a QBR of 63.4 – which was his third best QBR in his career. I would like to see Carr stay healthy and his weapons (Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Taysom Hill) also stay healthy.
Tua Tagoviloa
Tua Tagovailoa can not beat a winning team. Tua has a record of 7-14 against winning teams. Tua has also only played in one full season in his career. To make matters worse, it looks like Tyreek Hill won’t be a Dolphin next season. Tua is still 26 and has the world at the palm of his hands. Mike McDaniel may surprise and switch QBs to try and save his own skin.
Brock Purdy
Brock Purdy has a slump this season, but he doesn’t deserve all the blame. His toys couldn’t stay healthy. Christian McCaffrey played in four games, Brandon Aiyuk played in 7 games, and even Trent Williams only played in 10 games. Purdy had a record of 6-9 – after possessing a record of 12-4 the season prior. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kyle Shanahan went after Sam Darnold this off-season.
Geno Smith
Geno Smith was once the comeback player of the year. Nonetheless, he hasn’t stayed consistent since then. He only threw 20 touchdowns in 2023 and then he threw 15 interceptions this season. Smith did have a winning record of 10-7, so he did have modest success. Smith had a PFF of 82.5 this season. I would like to see Geno take care of the football in the brutal NFC West division.
Honorable Mention:
CJ Stroud
Over the past several weeks, the Texans have had a mediocre offense. Stroud is already facing an uphill battle. He did beat the Los Angeles Chargers, but that doesn’t make up for all of his blunders in 2024. Jared Goff threw five interceptions and the Lions were still able to beat the Texans. Stroud only threw 20 TDs to 12 interceptions, so he wasn’t exactly daunting this season. Stroud had a PFF grade of 78.9 this season.
