Is Mike McCarthy a poor coach?

Mike McCarthy was axed from his head coaching gig with the Dallas Cowboys recently. He has surely garnered a heap of interest from other ball clubs. With that said, a fascinating question clouds over him: is he overrated?

My answer to the prior question is: absolutely not. McCarthy went through growing pains in his first season – as he notched a 6-10 record in his first season. Afterward, he went 12-5 for three straight seasons. Yes, you read that correctly.

Of course, McCarthy fell on hard times last season. To be fair, Dak Prescott only played eight games. Micah Parsons also missed four games.

It’s also hard to blame McCarthy for having a defense a defense that ranked 31st in points allowed.

Let’s not forget that McCarthy is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Sean Payton won a Lombardi trophy and he wasn’t given a short leash. He went 7-9 in three straight seasons, yet he wasn’t fired!

McCarthy had five losing seasons as a ring leader of a team. Well, guess what: Payton also had five losing seasons!

With Aaron Rodgers, McCarthy had 12 or more wins on 6 occasions. He even went 15-1 in one season. I believe that McCarthy can have top-tier success with a quality QB.

McCarthy was once an offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints for five seasons! Perhaps he will make a return to the Big Easy. Derek Carr was Top-5 in many categories last season and Alvin Kamara is one of the top all-around ball-carriers last season.

From the entirety of his career, McCarthy accumulated 174 wins and 112 losses. McCarthy went 11-11 in playoffs. He won the NFC North eight times! His offense ranked Top-5 in points nine times, as well. Besides working with the Hall of Fame QB in Aaron Rodgers, His offense ranked Top-5 in points in three of his five seasons with the Boys.
