Packers off-season preview

Latest Packers off-season outlook

By: Austin Roth

With the Super Bowl coming up there is quite the buzz around the NFL. But, honestly could care less about who wins. Chiefs win, they make history and it’s officially a dynasty. The Eagles win, we have to hear their foul fans chirp for the next 8 months (but, happy for Saquon). So, whatever happens it’s just another Super Bowl.

That’s why the offseason is already taking force in all of our feeds. So far some crazy coaching hires have happened like the Las Vegas Raiders landing 71 Year old Pete Carol and the Detroit Lions losing key pieces of their coaching staff with Ben Johnson going to a rival, joining the Chicago Bears as their next Head Coach and the New York Jets coming and swooping in Aaron Glenn as their next Head Coach along with Tanner Engstrand to be his Offensive Coordinator. The Lions also loaded back up though with the addition of John Morton from the Denver Broncos as their new Offensive Coordinator and upgrading their defensive line coach Kasy Rodgers as their new Defensive Coordinator.

With all that being said the NFC North is still just as or more of a scary division come next year. So, the Green Bay Packers got to do something. They seem to be the odd team out, everyone around them is getting better and it’s time to make a move. Starting with the Offense, Jordan Love needs help. Yes, they were a very run heavy team with a beast like Josh Jacobs in the backfield (AJ Dillon with him would have been filthy) but a reliable receiver has been hard to come by for Love. When Christan Watson is healthy he’s a threat, but again when he’s healthy. Romeo Doubs had multiple personal issues this last year as well as a concussion. Jayden Reed is a fantastic slot receiver but not so much anywhere else but could definitely improve on that this offseason.

The Defense is a different story. Top 5 defense on several fronts but a possible key still missing being the Defensive Line. We saw breakout rookies Edgerrin Cooper and Evan Williams, offseason signing Xavier Mckinney, and the dog himself Rashan Gary make their presence felt. Yet lacking a solid run defense, Kenny Clark can only do so much and he’s not big enough to stuff these monsters Like Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley who The Packers have to play against next season.

Also a true CB1 with Jaire Alexander getting hurt in week 8, now getting surgery on a PCL injury. Veteran Keisean Nixon stepped up big in that role at the end of the season. Since the season ended, he has expressed dislike with returning kickoffs so there is a possibility he makes a huge leap this offseason with his focus on being a better cornerback along with mentoring Carrington Valentine. Bottom line is, The Packers NEED a true WR1 along with a CB1. add a Defensive Tackle or a Defensive end in there as well. Let’s get greedy, yet reasonable. But who could it be? And who will we give up? Picks? Jaire Alexander is the first name to come to mind on the trading block. Would anyone want a cornerback with his history of health? His leadership and personality as a team guy is unmatched as well as being a 28 year old star Pro Bowler. So, with Keisean Nixon stepping up and the young cornerbacks showing signs of major improvement they should be focused on getting the 55 million dollar a year man Jordan Love some help.

Latest news is Cooper Kupp being informed he will be traded this offseason. Obviously Cooper Kupp will make an instant impact in the passing game anywhere he goes. But, there are more likely targets. D.K. Metcalf also seems to be on the trading block as well and Green Bay just feels right for the 6’4” 235 Lb Wide Receiver from Ole Miss. Seattle could use a star cornerback to add to breakout star Devin Witherspoon and Tre Brown. Jaire Alexander and a 2025 4rd round pick for D.K. Metcalf seems like a win/win to me.

The one all Cheeseheads far and wide could only hope for, is that Davante Adams comes back home. Get him away from washed up Aaron Rodgers to the next great Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love. But of course, would have to trade for him. The Jets got him for a 3rd, could the Packers get that Lucky? Save Jaire, swoop Adams for a 3rd round pick, get our WR1 back and trade Jaire to a team in need with an unhappy player that wants to win now? Well there is a team, The Las Vegas Raiders that is.

With a new head coach but not alot of upside for the team why not throw in a Jaire and a forth for Maxx Crosby and we will all be happy. Last but not least, one of the biggest disruptors of the offence in the game. Myles Garrett is requesting a trade. A trade the Packers could do for a 2025 first round pick with a second and a forth in there, could very possibly get Myles Garrett or any of these guys with that package. You’re getting first round talent either way, why not use it on an established stud like Garrett or Crosby and you have Jaire there as a sweetener for any trade you wanna make. It’s looking good for the Packers to likely land one of these major game changers to compete with the ultra competitive NFC North. Cooper Kupp, D.K. Metcalf, Davante Adams, Maxx Crosby, and Myles Garrett. The five stars The Packers need to have in their sights going into the offseason and before the NFL Draft
