Why Garrett Wilson is underrated right now

Garrett Wilson is underrated right now

Garrett Wilson is one of the most gifted wide receivers below the age of 25. He won Offensive Rookie of The Year in 2022 and he’s been a pillar of consistent dominance since then. He unveiled 1,042 yards in 2023 and then unleashed 1,104 yards in 2024. With that said, the following statement may make no sense: Wilson hasn’t been to the Pro Bowl. Yes, you read that correctly.

I really hope Wilson isn’t the next Marques Colston. Colston had 7 seasons with more than 1k receiving yards! Yet, he failed to make the Pro Bowl. I hope this is a bad spell for Wilson and he can wound up having similar markers as Mike Evans. Evans had recorded over 1k receiving yards in each of his seasons. He’s made six trips to the Pro Bowl!

As widely enunciated, Fields went to the Big Apple. Guy Davenport of Bleacher Report dubbed the move as the best FA move this off-season! Fields may be seen as a dual-threat QB, but he can still throw it quite accurate and make magic throwing the ball on the run. We witnessed Jalen Hurts, who is a dual-threat QB, feed A.J. Brown for a 1k+ yard season and DeVonta Smith 8 receiving TDs.

Fields is excellent at making plays in space. Fields doesn’t have to have a beautiful deep throw for Wilson to thrive. Tanner Engstrand is coming over from Detroit. Under him, I wouldn’t expect Wilson to be third in the league in targets. However, that obviously doesn’t mean Wilson can’t be successful with the ball spread around.

Under Tanner and Ben Johnson, Amon-Ra St. Brown was first-team All-Pro in 2023 and in 2024! He recorded 1,515 yards and 10 TDs in 2023, then proceeded to haul in 1,263 yards and 12 TDs last season.

He has been somewhat average in his games against division foes. He recorded three games over 100+ yards in his six division contests. CB Carlton Davis headed to the Pats and CB Dane Jackson returned to the Bills. This should make things a bit less smooth for Wilson.

Wilson should still be heavily leaned on moving forward, especially with Davante Adams out of the picture. Allen Lazard, who is the WR2, isn’t a Top-10 WR2. Jets fans, Ohio State fans, and fantasy owners of Wilson should expect Wilson to take the next step and punch a trip to his first Pro Bowl.
