Is Tomlin on the hot seat right now?

Mike Tomlin has been one of the most successful head coaches in the 21st century. He has never had a losing record in a season. Furthermore, he won a Super Bowl against Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals. With that said, there must be some uncertainty if there are bloody rumors everywhere about him being on the hot seat.

Tomlin hasn’t had any issue reaching the playoffs. The issue is that he’s 8-11 in the post-season! They are even 3-9 since reaching the Super Bowl.

The worst part is that they have failed to properly replace Big Ben. They finished 26th in points scored in 2022, 28th in points scored in 2023, and 16th in points scored last season. Russell Wilson was the latest project that didn’t quite pan out.

The question is: how long should the Steelers wait for Tomlin to win a playoff contest? They can’t set the standard of only having a “winning regular season” forever. After all, their elite pieces in T.J. Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick aren’t getting any younger.

They also brought in DK Metcalf to join George Pickens. There is a lot of speculation that the Steelers will bring in A-Rod, as well.

I would give Tomlin two more seasons to try and take the next step of winning a playoff game. If they bring in Rodgers and they fail to advance in the post-season within a couple of years, it would make sense to rebuild at their HC and QB spots.

Everybody loves Tomlin. After all, he’s a player’s coach. Nonetheless, all good things come to an end. Pete Carroll was a pillar of consistency in Seattle, but he wasn’t quite prolific enough. Bill Belichick failed to thrive without Tom Brady in his building. Even Mike Vrabel struggled without a QB and had to take some time to find the best fit. Tomlin may cut ties with the Steelers soon, but that doesn’t mean he’s a poor coach or that he can’t go out in the sunset.
