What is the best spot for Mike McCarthy?

Mike McCarthy is one of the most accomplished head coaches in the NFL. However, he took a break from the HC scene in 2025. With that said, I’m going to untwine teams that could be the right fit for him in 2026.

Miami Dolphins

Mike McDaniel is is 3-14 against squads with a winning record! To make matters worse, Tyreek Hill may not be a Phin this upcoming season. I love Tua’s growth, but I don’t think that will save his young head coach.

Cleveland Browns

The Deshaun Watson experiment has failed and someone has got to pay. Kevin Stefanski has found a lot of success, but he is coming off a 3-14 record. Furthermore, the Browns compete in arguably the best NFL division. I don’t love the outlook for the Browns and Stefanski.

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons may be the last team in the NFC South next season. Bryce Young has blossomed, Baker Mayfield is playing like a Pro Bowler, and Derek Carr is healthy. I could foresee Michael Penix Jr. being paired with an offensive minded HC after this season.

Indianapolis Colts

Shane Steichen had a losing record last season, so he needs to turn it around. It won’t be easy for him to bounce back with Anthony Richardson, who is a loose cannon (8 TDs to 12 ints). I foresee a rebuild with a new HC and QB next season.

Daniel Jones may replace Richardson soon into the 2025 season.

New York Jets

I’d love to see Justin Fields meshed with a QB whisperer like McCarthy. Anthony Glenn’s seat will be questioned after they get blown out by the Buffalo Bills twice a season in my opinion. McCarthy just missed out on Rodgers.

Honorable Mention:

Las Vegas Raiders

Pete Carroll is a wise coach, but he is arguably the worst HC in the AFC West (behind Andy Reid, Sean Payton, and Jim Harbaugh). Just as the Chargers and Broncos recently went with young QBs and new HCs, I wouldn’t be surprised if LV soon went with a new QB-HC combo soon next off-season.
