Grading the Washington Commanders WR room

Commanders WR room outlook

By: Jake Rajala

The Washington Commanders had explosive play-makers in their wide receiver room last season. Well, they found a way to add more ammunition to their WR group this off-season. Hence, the question is: what is the grade of their WR room?

I believe their WR room deserves an A-

Terry McLaurin is a Top-10 wideout in my opinion. Scary Terry is coming off a season where he didn’t only eclipse 1k receiving yards, but he reached the end-zone 13 times! Hence, he was named second-team All-Pro. He has reached 1k yards in five of his six seasons! He also hasn’t missed a game in his past four seasons!

Deebo Samuel was shipped out of the Bay Area to the nation’s capital. Samuel notched 1117 total yards and 12 TDs in 2023. He took a step back last season – as he recorded 806 total yds and four touchdowns. It’s been reported that he is highly motivated. Washington is hoping they can see the player that he was in 2021 – where he hauled in 1,405 yds and averaged 18.2 YPC!

Michael Gallup

Michael Gallup is arguably one of the best WR3 in the league. He was clouded by Ceedee Lamb and Brandin Cooks for a couple of years. He also didn’t have Dak Prescott for most of 2024, so I will give him a pass for last season. He is 29, so he should have a couple of seasons left in the tank to make magic happen.

Noah Brown

Noah Brown is a modest WR3/WR4. He has brought in over 450 yards in each of his past three seasons. In 2023, he scooped up 563 yards in 10 games! Brown should make it difficult for Gallup to be the WR3. He had a PFF grade of 70.7 last season – which put him at middle of the pack.

The Commanders don’t have Megatron or Randy Moss, but they still have one of the best WR duos in the league. The only thing that makes me give their WR room an A- and not an A is due to Samuel’s dip in production last season. We witnessed Cordarrelle Patterson and Percy Harvin, who were both swiss army knifes, hit a wall in the back-end of their career. It isn’t easy to play the RB spot and then dominate as a WR. Hopefully, Samuel has some juice at 29 years old to be an elite RB/WR and help his squad take a step forward from last season.
