Where will Tyron Smith sign?
By: Jake Rajala
The eight time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro Tyron Smith is a behemoth and one of the most potent left tackles in the league. Sure, he may be 34 years old and had injury issues. Nonetheless, I believe he has a few years left in him. Hence, I’m going to untwine the best spots for him.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints second-year LT Taliese Fuaga was dubbed the 53rd best tackle by PFF last season. He had 10 penalties and he allowed six sacks. He’s a part of the reason Derek Carr has taken a beating and missed games. The Saints still are 12th in cap space, so they could pull this move off without worrying too much about money.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders added a new QB, so a new LT would be the cherry on top. Kolton Miller is a slightly above average LT, but Smith can be an upgrade and a chip that could finally put them in the post-season. The Raiders play Khalil Mack, Nik Bonitto, and Chris Jones. They need their OL to be prepared as best as possible.
Tennessee Titans
Smith could help the Titans discover whether Will Levis can succeed with a better OL. Dan Moore Jr. isn’t the answer at LT – as he unveiled an PFF grade of 67.2 last season. The Titans need better pass protection in a division where Danielle Hunter and Travon Walker reign.
Dallas Cowboys
Tyler Guyton has gifted ability, but he isn’t quite ready to be the Boys starting LT right now. He had a PFF grade of 49.4 – which placed him 116th of 141 tackles. Smith would help Dak Prescott stay healthy and bring a smile to everyone’s face that he returned home.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are slowly losing pieces. They failed to properly replace David Bakhtiari. They need to swing for the fences and add a high-profile figure. Smith can help the Pack slowly mow down foes. They ranked 10th in time of possession, so there’s some room for improvement.
Honorable Mention:
Kansas City Chiefs
As previously noted, there are many prolific pass rushers in the AFC West. The Bills and Chiefs also have cream of the crop pass rushers. The Chiefs couldn’t hold back the Buccaneers pass rush in the Super Bowl and the Eagles pass rush in their last SB showdown.
