What does Stefon Diggs bring to the Patriots?
By: Jake Rajala
Stefon Diggs brings music to Minnesota Vikings ears, as he was the recipient of the Minneapolis Miracle. However, the explosive and nifty route runner left to Buffalo and then he played last season with the Houston Texans. He has officially chosen to stay in the AFC East with the New England Patriots on a three deal worth $69 million dollars!
With that said, the fascinating question clouds over Diggs: what is the grade of the signing?
I will give them a B.
Drake Maye can exceed the production shown by Mac Jones with Diggs in his arsenal. Diggs can be a 1k receiver in this upcoming season. However, I don’t expect Diggs to be a Pro Bowl caliber WR in his last season of his contract. After all, he turns 32 in November.
I believe that Diggs was the best option for the Pats in free agency. I like him more than Amari Cooper, who has been on a roller coaster. However, they could have been more creative and acquired a WR, who is younger, such as Brandon Aiyuk. We saw the Washington Commanders trade for a WR (in Deebo Samuel) vs signing a weapon.
On the bright side, the Pats still have young, modest weapons. DeMario Douglas is 24 years old. He hauled in 621 yards last season. They also have Kayshon Boutte – who is 22 – and coming off a season with 589 yards. I believe these two WRs, who took a step forward in their sophomore seasons, with elevate their production in their junior seasons.
Diggs is one of the best WRs that they have had in a long time. He isn’t Randy Moss, but he can be a Pro Bowler in “2024”. They will have a more robust chance of beating the Miami Dolphins – after being swept by them last season w/ Diggs.
