Is Jefferson the NFL’s best WR?

Justin Jefferson has been a pillar of dominance for the Minnesota Vikings. He is a key reason that Sam Darnold, who was an NFL bust, came out and played like a Pro Bowler last season. With that said, a reasonable question clouds over Jefferson: is he the NFL’s best WR?

It is no surprise that Fox Sports dubs Jefferson the best WR. Over the past five seasons, he has averaged an NFL best 96.5 YPG. Jefferson hauled in 1,533 yards last season – which is second best in the league. He also averaged 14.9 YPC, which was better than any WR that was Top-10 in receiving yards.

Not only has Jefferson played like a first-team All-Pro and “Offensive Player of The Year”, but he’s also done it without a Top-10 QB. Before Darnold, there was Kirk Cousins, who wasn’t exactly elite.

How does Jefferson stack up against fellow WRs?

Ja’Marr Chase and Tyreek Hill come to mind as Top-5 WRs, as well. Hill hit a bit of a wall last season, but he led the league in receiving yards and touchdowns in 2023! The impressive part is that he didn’t do it with a Top-15 QB. Ja’Marr Chase led the league in receiving yards and touchdowns a season ago. He had more help than other WRs – as he played with an elite QB in Joe Burrow.

I believe that Jefferson, Hill, and Chase are neck and neck for the best WR1 in the league. There isn’t a WR like Megatron that clearly separates himself from the other elite wideouts.

With that said, I believe that Jefferson is the best WR right now. He has been one of the best WRs – despite defenses focusing on him more than how defenses focus on Chase. I believe that Darnold was worse than Tua and Joe Burrow, as well.

Jefferson, Chase, and Hill are on pace to earn a gold jacket and be cast into Canton. Hopefully, none of these WRs hit a wall that former Offensive Player of The Year Michael Thomas hit in the future.
