Replacements for Derek Carr

Life is unlucky for New Orleans Saints fans (if that wasn’t obvious(. Well, tragedy struck for Who Dat Nation today. Derek Carr has a shoulder injury that is leaving 2025 in question for him. Hence, I’m going to untwine five potential replacements for Carr.

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers may peg the Saints as the classiest and most talented team to join. Rodgers may even be more potent than Carr, so it could be a blessing in disguise. Rodgers threw 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions last season. A-Rod was really cooking with Davante Adams in his offense. He would arguably have better weapons with the Saints than in New York. Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Brandin Cooks are one of the best WR trios in the league.

Spencer Rattler

Kellen Moore was upbeat about Spencer Rattler’s ability. He made some impressive touchdown drives, such as the one in the last moments against Washington. Not only did Rattler make elite throws at times, but he was often playing with back-up weapons. Rattler may not be Drew Brees, but he could be a franchise QB.

Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins would prefer the Saints over the Cleveland Browns, which is a team that he’s rumored to play with. Cousins is coming off a sad season, but his arm talent was still nicely on display in moments of last season. Cousins, similar to Rodgers, would be a short-term answer. The only draw-back is that the Falcons play in the same division as the Saints.

Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders is widely seen as the favorite to land with the Saints. Sanders is the second best QB in the draft. The Saints may need to trade up a few spots to land Shedeur. If Shedeur can’t take the keys away from Rattler in 2025, he could still be the answer in 2026 and beyond. After all, Patrick Mahomes sat in his rookie season.

Teddy Bridgewater

There may be some magic with Teddy Bridgewater after he once led the Saints to a 5-0 record. Teddy B can nicely utilize Alvin Kamara and the other weapons in the short-passing game. He can also take care of the football better than most backup QBs.
