Is Hill a trade candidate?
By: Jake Rajala
The undrafted unicorn Taysom Hill has been one of the most versatile New Orleans Saints players of all time. He has 21 total touchdowns in his past three seasons combined. He has also averaged 7.1 YPC.
However, the fountain of youth isn’t exactly on his side – as he turns 35 in August. It’s quite rare to see a quality runner – whether it’s from the QB spot or RB position. Hill is also in an offense that has four QBs and two quality TEs. Hence, the combination of his age and team fit isn’t daunting. With that said, a fascinating question arises: is Hill a trade candidate?
I believe that it wouldn’t be surprising if the Saints moved on from Hill. They could potentially get a mid-round pick for him, which could be used on a much younger skill player. There are certainly teams that would welcome Hill with open arms, such as the Denver Broncos. Sean Payton essentially discovered the ability of Hill. The Broncos also play against the Kansas City Chiefs twice a season. Hence, they could really benefit from more firepower on offense.
The Seattle Seahawks could also benefit from Hill. The Hawks offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, was the Saints OC last season. Kliff already welcomed MVS, who was on the Saints last season.
Hill may be looking at playing for only a couple of more seasons. If that’s the case, it does make sense for him to stay with the Saints. After all, he is a fan favorite.
Kellen Moore is also a highly creative signal-caller, which means he will have plays drawn up for Hill to excel in 2025. Not only will he be a pass catcher and ball-carrier, but he will also be a lead blocker. Hill can really squash linebackers, as he can squat 600 pounds!
Personally, I’d like to see Hill stay with the Saints, due to Moore being a wiz. If Pete Carmichael was calling the shots, I’d prefer to see Hill get traded. However, that’s not the case. Hill could also get a lot of reps due to Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shough potentially starting, as they are both 25 or younger.
