What does Jalen Milroe bring to the Seahawks?

Outlook for Jalen Milroe

By: Jake Rajala

The former Alabama signal-caller Jalen Milroe was regarded as one of the biggest playmakers in the NFL Draft. It was hard to ignore his talent after he ran a 4.40 40 yard dash! Meanwhile, RG3 ran a 4.41. Hence, it’s safe to say Jalen is quite fast!

The Seahawks drafted Jalen in the third round – which was the same round that they drafted Russell Wilson. With that said, the ultimate question arises: what does Jalen Milroe bring to the Hawks?

Jalen’s best season came in his sophomore season – where he unveiled 23 passing touchdowns, 12 rushing touchdowns, and only six interceptions. Jalen also had a 65.8 completion percentage.

He was still effective last season, as he unleashed 20 rushing touchdowns. PFF gave him a grade of 87.4. Jalen was compared to Jalen Hurts by B/R.

Milroe will be regarded as one of the best back-up QBs in the league. However, It’s already been said by Mike Macdonald that Milroe won’t be used like Taysom Hill. It’s understandable that is the case, given that they have Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Njigba at WR.

It’s a tad puzzling that they drafted Milroe. They’re heavily invested in Sam Darnold, who is only 27 years old! The Hawks may trade Milroe after a couple of seasons. He has starting QB potential. There is also the potential that Milroe beats out Darnold, who may be a game manager outside Minnesota.

Darnold has also suffered key injuries in his career, such as an shoulder injury in 2020, a concussion in 2021, and a high ankle sprain in 2022. There is a realistic chance that Darnold suffers an injury and Jalen sees the field.
