Could Rodgers return home?

The former Butte Community College quarterback Aaron Rodgers still has some gas left in the tank. He can still make lethal throws when the coverage is tight. He can also move around somewhat well for a 41 year old QB. Hence, A-rod still plans on playing and he is seeking one thing: a Lombardi trophy.

Rodgers has said that he doesn’t care about the money and that he will play for $10 million per season.

It has seemed clear that Rodgers wanted to play for the Minnesota Vikings. They have Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson. The issue is that the Vikings already have J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy would have to take a back seat to Rodgers, which could hurt his growth. Furthermore, Rodgers may even be worse than McCarthy right now.

If Rodgers wants to take the reigns from a quality QB and chase a Super Bowl ring, why not do it at the most logical place: home. Rodgers has chemistry with Matt LaFleur and they have serious firepower. They have Matthew Golden, who was the fastest WR in CFB last season. They also have Jayden Reed (averaged 15.6 YPC in 2024) and Romeo Doubs.

If Rodgers is good enough to win another Super Bowl, then he shouldn’t have an issue dethroning McCarthy or Love. If he isn’t good enough to take away the keys to the offense from one of the young QBs, he should be a back-up on a team with a chance to win a Super Bowl, rather then join a bottom level squad. He clearly isn’t good enough to carry an average offense, as that was shown last season.

Even if Rodgers became QB1 for the Vikings or Packers, McCarthy or Love could still be the long-term starter. Rodgers will likely play 1-2 more seasons at most.

If he doesn’t want to risk not being a starter on a team and also not play for a lackluster team, he should consider joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers don’t only have DK Metcalf and George Pickens, but they essentially have an open chair at the QB spot. The Steelers also chose not to draft a QB until the sixth round. Mason Rudolph can be a game manager, but I don’t believe he’s a Top-20 QB.
