QB targets for the Pats
By: Jake Rajala
There is no secret: Drake Maye is the long-term quarterback in New England. However, the QB2 spot is a bit murky. Joshua Dobbs is the backup right now. However, I really believe the Pats should bring in more competition at the QB2 spot, as Dobbs is 3-12 in his career. With that said, I’m going to untwine five veteran QB targets for the Pats.
Davis Mills
Davis Mills could not only be a quality QB2, but he could push Maye for the starting gig. Maye and Mills have similar first-year stats. Mills threw for 16 TDs, while Maye threw for 15 TDs. They both threw for 10 ints. Maye went 3-9 and Mills went 2-9.
Teddy Bridgewater
Teddy Bridgewater has sharp short accuracy, which is good for Josh McDaniels’s scheme. Teddy B once went 5-0 and 7-7. He can be a QB that can keep a team in the game. Plus, he’s 32 and not 40 or older (such as Joe Flacco or Aaron Rodgers).
Jake Haener
Jake Haener isn’t a free agent, but he could be a trade target. After all, he sits in a Saints QB room that has Derek Carr, Spencer Rattler, and Tyler Shough. Haener has quality traits – such as accuracy and ability to somewhat take care of the football.
Gardner Minshew
Minshew Mania could be a hot trade target as the off-season goes on. Minshew really struggled in a broken down Raiders offense last season. I believe he can still be a QB that puts a team over .500. He is a back-up on the Chiefs, but he could be expendable, as they have Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun at the QB spot.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz still wants to go out swinging after being a back-up on a Super Bowl winning team. Wentz wasn’t chosen to be the QB2 on the Chiefs in 2025. I still would like to see the 32 year old compete for a starting gig, after being a sure-fire backup over the past few seasons. Perhaps the old dog can teach Drake new tricks and take the keys to the starting gig for a moment.
