Packers WR room outlook
By: Jake Rajala
The Green Bay Packers possess a lethal wide receiver room, especially with the latest arrival of Matthew Golden. It would be an understatement to say he pumped up the crowd of cheeseheads on draft day. With that said, where does this shiny Packers WR room stand?
Golden is far from a slouch. He ran a 4.29 at the NFL combine – which was fastest among WRs. He also hauled in nine touchdowns last season. I don’t believe that Golden will have a similar outcome as John Ross, who is a 40 yard legend. Golden can run crisp routes and make circus-like catches.
It’s unfortunate that the Pack drafted a WR in the first round for the first time since 2002. Aaron Rodgers could have really used WR help in his Packers days.
Golden will be a prolific deep threat, but he won’t be the WR1. Jayden Reed will hold down the WR1 spot. He unveiled 857 yards, six touchdowns, and averaged 15.6 YPC a season ago. Reed is merely entering his third season. He can be sure-handed and a quality deep threat.
Romeo Doubs will compete for a lot of targets. Doubs is quite explosive and dangerous out-wide, while Reed dominates from the slot. Romeo recorded 8 TDs in 2023. He is also 25. It’s quite impressive that the Pack holds three gifted WRs, who are 25 or younger.
Golden can be a Pro Bowler in my opinion. He reminds me of Brandin Cooks. I would give him a grade of a B. Then I would hand a B- to Reed and a B- to Doubs. The Packers have a Top-10 WR room in my opinion. I would say it’s between 7 and 10.
I would like to see the Packers bring in a veteran WR, especially a WR that can shine on the perimeter. Amari Cooper would be a wise addition to the Packers offense in my opinion. The Packers need their WR room to shine early in their careers, as they face three explosive offenses in their own division (NFC North).
