Outlook on Browns QB room
By: Jake Rajala
The Cleveland Browns have many quarterbacks that could be a starter on a team. However, there still isn’t a clear day 1 starter at QB for them. Deshaun Watson was expected to be the ring leader and Pro Bowl-caliber QB for them in 2022. He managed to go 5-1 in 2023, but he fell flat last season, as he went 1-6! Yikes. To make matters worse, Watson is expected to miss a large portion of 2025, so he can repair the once torn Achilles tendon.
The Browns don’t only need an answer at QB in 2025, but they likely need a long-term QB. It appears the Watson experiment is over.
Joe Flacco has experience in the dog pound, as he led them to a 4-1 record in 2023! He knows the ins and outs of Kevin Stefankski’s offense. However, he doesn’t quite have the same mobility as Pickett. At 40 years old, he will also likely retire after this upcoming season.
I love that the Browns doubled up on QBs in the draft, especially without getting Shedeur in the fifth round. They didn’t have to draft him in Round 1-3. I believe that Shedeur has the edge over Dillon Gabriel. I partially believe this, because I expect a massive chip on the shoulder of Sanders. The legendary coach, Sean Payton, raved about his talent and potential in this league. He said, “beware” if you snubbed Sanders.
Sanders needs to combine his talent with wit. He can’t bring back memories of Johnny Manziel, who was lazy and a waste of arm talent. Watson needs to make Cleveland, Travis Hunter, and his Dad proud. Hopefully, he can have a similar story as legendary late round picks Tom Brady and Brock Purdy in the end.
