Where will Bridgewater land?
By: Jake Rajala
The free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater has been an NFL fan favorite for recovering from his torn ACL and finding success afterward. Teddy B went 5-0 in 2019 and then 7-7 in 2020. He hasn’t quite got a fair shake at it since then. Plus, he’s still 33-32 in his career, which isn’t terrible. With that said, I’m going to untwine five landing spots for Bridgewater!
New Orleans Saints
It would be blasphemous to not put the Saints as his best landing spot. He has found gold there and they need a veteran QB after Derek Carr retired. They are the only NFL team that doesn’t have a QB who won a game. Teddy B is also a quality pocket passer and the Saints drafted an OL for the second straight season. He blatantly can play well in their system right away.
Tennessee Titans
It’s not completely clear how well Cam Ward will play. We witnessed Jayden Daniels outplay Caleb Williams last season. We’ve seen many first-overall QBs not live up to their draft pick. The Titans may have to switch drivers at some point in the season. The QB change could come from talent or injury.
Detroit Lions
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
The Detroit Lions obviously have some chemistry, as he’s been their QB2 for games in the regular season and even in the playoffs. Bridgewater is quite more potent than the current Lions QB2 Hendon Hooker. He has nine career pass attempts.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers can fall back on Teddy B if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t come through. Yes, Teddy B doesn’t have an Hall of Fame arm, but he can still be consistent and take care of the ball quite well. I would slightly prefer Carson Wentz over Teddy B.
Honorable Mention
New York Jets
I don’t love the aggressiveness by the Jets with the signing of Justin Fields. He hasn’t proven to be reliable and a consistent NFL starter. The QB2 is Tyrod Taylor, who is 35 and filled with injuries in the past. I’d love to see Fields and Bridgewater duke it out the keys to the offense.
