Sophomores that are headed to the Pro Bowl

Watch out for a sophomore jump

By: Jake Rajala

It’s easy to peg which sophomores are headed for a slump. Well, I’m going to take a more eccentric angle by untwining which sophomores are headed to the Pro Bowl! Let’s begin.

J.J. McCarthy

It’s hard to fail with a Top-3 wide receiver in Justin Jefferson and an elite play-caller in Kevin O’Connell. All Sam Darnold did at QB last season was unleash 35 passing touchdowns and 4,319 passing yards. It says a lot that the Vikings were confident in moving on from that kind of production to start J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy may have some growing pains like Bo Nix and Drake Maye, but I expect him to put up fireworks in the second half of the upcoming season.

Bo Nix

Sean Payton is a genius. After a full off-season, his QB in Bo Nix, should really be ready to thrive. Nox unveiled 29 passing touchdowns and led his team to an 10-7 record. He was really rusty early on, but he made up for it in the last several games. I believe he can split games with Patrick Mahomes (partially because his defense is elite), so this will bring in a lot of praise.

Xavier Worthy

Xavier Worthy is closer to Desean Jackson than John Ross. Worthy can run crisp routes and his vision is superb. Worthy will get a lot more opportunities moving forward, as DeAndre Hopkins is out of the building. They have a few washed up wideouts in my opinion. Worthy is by the most explosive WR among their WR depth chart.

Rome Odunze

Keenan Allen is out of the building, despite the fact that he can still play at a high level. The combination of growth and opportunity will lead Rome Odunzo to playing at a high level. Rome managed to obtain 734 yards, which is impressive with an up and down rookie QB. Chicago Bears on SI peg Rome as a breakout under Ben Johnson, as well.

The 2024 NFL Draft is one of the best drafts over the past decade. I expect it to even blossom more. In particular, I believe a couple of QBs will prove to be successful and true franchise QBs.
