Overrated players on the Saints
By: Jake Rajala
The New Orleans Saints aren’t a flawless squad. After all, they finished 5-12. They have some dead weight on their roster. With that said, I’m going to untwine the five most overrated players on the Saints.
Pete Werner
I don’t love the fact that All-Pro linebacker Demario Davis will likely retire after this upcoming season and they are stuck with Pete Werner holding down the ILB spot. PFF wanted Who Dat Nation to draft MLB Demetrius Knight on Day 2. Obviously, that didn’t come to fruition. I’d like to see Werner make more plays in space and in the backfield.
Juwan Johnson
Not only does Juwan Johnson fail to step up in key situations, but he hasn’t quite been a maniac that can take over games. They should forget Johnson and even Taysom Hill at TE and target a freak TE in the early rounds of the 2026 draft. Johnson’s career high receiving yards in a single season is 548. To make things worse, the Saints signed Johnson to a three year deal worth $30 million dollars this off-season.
Chase Young
I don’t believe that Chase Young deserved a hefty contract after a putrid outcome in his latest contract season. The Saints should have went to lock up a DE in rounds 1-3. Young isn’t a Pro Bowl-caliber edge rusher. Plus, the Saints have Carl Granderson and Cameron Jordan right now, so they aren’t aching for edge rush help.
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler may have elite arm strength, but so did JaMarcus Russell. Spencer may have made some impressive throws last season, but he still went 0-9! His production didn’t stray Kellen Moore away from drafting Tyler Shough in the second round. I love that there is an open QB competition. I foresee Shough starting if it’s even a close competition, as Moore has a slight bias towards him.
Kendre Miller
Kendre Miller should have followed Jamaal Williams out the door. Kendre Miller has only played in 14 games in the past two seasons combined. He has looked like a tank at moments. He reminds me of former Saint Khiry Robinson. If Kendre doesn’t stay healthy for Week 1, I don’t believe he will have a roster spot.
