Potential replacements for Trey Hendrickson

Replacements for Trey

By: Jake Rajala

Things aren’t pretty between Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals. It appears Trey wants a long term deal, while Cincy does not. Hence, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Bengals shipped out Hendrickson. If they do ship out Hendrickson, I’m untwining a few potential replacements for him.

Chase Young

The Super Bowl contending San Francisco 49ers acquired Chase Young a couple of years ago. He managed to bring down Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. Young had a modest 5.5 sacks last season, but he also had a pressure rate of 14.7! The Saints still have Carl Granderson and Cameron Jordan, so they could survive at DE for this season without Young.

Khalil Mack

Khalil Mack is one of the best edge rushers in the league, regardless of age. He only had six sacks last season, but I believe he still has some of the 2023 magic, where he unleased a career-high 17 sacks! The Bengals are more in desperation mode than the Chargers. Hence, I believe they will secure him.

Kavyon Thibodeaux

In comes Abdul Carter, out goes Kavyon Thibodeaux. Well, maybe.

Kavyon might be the odd man out, especially if he wants a hefty contract. This would help explain why SI pegs Kavyon as having the most on the line in 2025! If he can score double digit sacks, I expect him to return to the Big Apple.

Honorable Mention:

Will Anderson Jr

Will Anderson Jr. isn’t as crisp as Hendrickson. Hendrickson has unleashed 17.5 sacks in each of his past two seasons. Hendrickson can help the Texans win right now. They could be legit Super Bowl contenders. They easily would own their division with Hendrickson. As for the Bengals, they would get a pass rusher that could grow with the youthful Bengals offense!
