7 teams that could gamble on Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson outlook

By: Jake Rajala

Deshaun Watson has been in hell over the past few seasons. He was once an MVP candidate. He’s transcended into an evil, putrid QB. I still don’t believe that he’s completely done in the league. After all, it was recently reported that he has begun throwing. Hence, I’m going to untwine many teams that could gamble on Watson.

There may be more than one team in the same division that’s interested in him.

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons expressed deep interest in Watson. Instead, they rolled with Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix. Kirk may be a safer pick than Watson, but I still believe that Watson has more upside. Plus. Captain Kirk turns 37 in August! The down-side is that the Falcons rank 30th in cap space.

New Orleans Saints

I have a feeling that the Saints will be in the same situation next year as they are in this year. Hence, this means they will still be desperate for a “veteran” QB. If Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler struggles, they don’t currently have a veteran QB who can manage the game. I’d like to see Watson duke it out against a couple of young guns at QB.

Los Angeles Rams

If anybody can fix a QB, it’s Sean McVay! McVay is elite at calling play-action. This falls right in the comfort zone of Watson. With this said, Matthew Stafford will likely retire within a few seasons, so Watson can be groomed to replace him. Once Watson has the keys to the offense, he can still have five to seven more quality seasons.

New York Jets

I believe the Jets will pull the plug on Justin Fields, who has gone 14-40 in his career. I’d love to see them bring in a rookie in round 2-3 and a veteran such as Watson to duke it out. Watson will also likely be less expensive than other veteran QBs. It should be noted that Watson is over 10 years younger than Aaron Rodgers, so it won’t be similar to that situation.

Tennessee Titans

I believe there’s a legit chance that Cam Ward needs a “few” years to become a Pro Bowl-caliber QB. This is partially due to the fact that the Titans have crummy weapons for him. The Titans were also 26th in sacks allowed last season. Watson can make more magic when the pocket breaks down than most QBs.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders have a bit of a question mark at QB. Geno Smith has played like a Pro Bowler at times. Well, last season he threw 21 TDs to 15 ints. His 15 ints were 73rd out of 75 QBs. Hence, he’s been shaky. Similar to the Jets, I could see the Raiders bringing in a rookie and a veteran to compete with Smith.

Indianapolis Colts

Anthony Richardson has Tim Tebow vibes, which isn’t good. He has a terrible career completion percentage of 50.6. He also 11 passing TDs to 13 ints in two seasons. On the flip-side, he does have six rushing touchdowns. I still don’t believe that he will transcend into a Pro Bowl QB. He doesn’t have the same rushing ability or throwing on the run success as someone like Cam Newton.

Honorable Mention:

Kansas City Chiefs

Carson Wentz went to the Kansas City Chiefs to be the best back-up in the league. Perhaps Watson can sit and learn under Andy Reid for a season. Patrick Mahomes has also dealt with minor injuries in the past, so it would make sense for KC to acquire a high-end QB2 again.
