QB targets for the Steelers
By: Jake Rajala
The Pittsburgh Steelers can’t roll with Mason Rudolph this season. End of discussion. Hence, I’d love to see the Steelers move forward with one of these veteran QBs listed.
Kirk Cousins
Captain Kirk is a modest QB, similar to Derek Carr, who recently retired. Kirk isn’t a Pro Bowler at this stage. However, can he win games with their weapons and defense? Absolutely. DK Metcalf is a Top-10 WR and their defense has none other than T.J. Watt. Furthermore, the Steelers division carries pedestrian defenses (excluding Baltimore).
Jimmy G
Jimmy G once led his team to the Super Bowl. He is capable of bringing a team to the playoffs, if they have quality pieces in place. He is a game manager, but that’s okay. He went 7-3 in 2022. He also threw 16 TDs to four ints. He did honestly struggle in a poor Raiders offense in 2023. He hasn’t quite got a fair shake at it since then.
Mac Jones
It felt like yesterday that Mac Jones made the Pro Bowl. He was a wretched Pats roster with little firepower for a couple of seasons. He then went to Jacksonville last season. He’s one of the most gifted QB2s. I’d like to see him compete with a stellar roster for the keys to QB1.
Malik Willis
Malik Willis has already been traded. The boat shouldn’t stop there! Willis has superb arm talent and the legs to mow down foes. The Steelers are comfortable with rushing QBs, after having Russell Wilson and Justin Fields last season. Willis went 2-0 last season.
Kyle Trask
I’d really like to see the “former first round pick” land with a team that could showcase his gifts. He shouldn’t stay in Tampa Bay forever. He won’t steal the QB1 job away from Baker Mayfield. The Steelers could also get a quality deal for Trask at this point.
There is a combination of young and old QBs on this list. There are also unique styles of QBs on this list. Personally, I’d like to see them move forward with a QB that has a combination of talent and youth. This could be Mac Jones or Kyle Trask.
